Lobsang Tshering
Lopsang Tshering Bhutia ((ネパール語:लोप्साङ भुटिया)) (1951/1952–10 May 1993) was a Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer who died on Mount Everest and the nephew of Tenzing Norgay.〔 His death made international headlines because he had died on the 40th anniversary expedition of his Uncle's summiting.〔(Hillary Reminisces on Everest Feat : Nepal: It was 17 below and the wind blew slivers of ice as the New Zealander and his Sherpa guide scaled the last 1,100 feet to the top of the world on May 29, 1953. - May 30, 1993 - ARTHUR MAX )〕 His uncle, Tenzing Norgay, had died at home of natural causes in 1986 at the age of 72.〔(People Magazine - Tenzing Norgay, the Sherpa Peasant Who Conquered Everest, Dies Quietly at Home - By Joshua Hammer - May 26, 1986 )〕 Tenzing Norgay was the first person to summit Mount Everest in 1953 along with Sir Edmund Hillary.
Lopsang was an instructor at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute & took part in the 1993 Everest expedition led by ''his'' nephew, Tashi Tenzing (Tenzing Norgay's grandson), to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his uncle's 1953 ascent of Mount Everest. Lopsang reached the summit but was killed in a fall during the descent on May 10, 1993.〔(Asia, Nepal, Mount Everest, Pre-Monsoon Summary )〕
A 2008 study noted that most deaths occur on Mount Everest during summit descents; due to the fact that climbers are fatigued & likely suffering from hypoxia.〔(CLIMBING EVEREST: WHO MAKES IT TO THE TOP? By John Florio and Ouisie Shapiro )〕 Also, falling is one of the greatest dangers on Mount Everest and other high Mountains above 8000-meter altitude.〔(The Atlanitc - Charting Deaths on Mount Everest - Author : Svati Kirsten Narula )〕
